ABOUT

MARGIE MCINARNAY

I grew up in the rural splendor of Bartlett's Ferry, Alabama. With the Chattahoochee River running right past my back door, my surroundings reeled me right in to an overwhelming appreciation of nature’s intricacies. So, I began drawing and painting at an early age trying to capture the detail in the beauty I saw all around me.

I became more focused as an artist when my husband and I moved to Florida in 2010. With Florida’s tropical birds, flowers, and sunsets persuading me, I was once again wooed by nature to draw and to paint.

ART STYLE AND CONTENT

I am right at home with the lush green rolling landscapes of Alabama. But, my inspirations have typically come from my travels outside my home state. I love the botanical and scenic backdrops that I’ve found in Hawaii and have been awe-struck by the ancient ruins and the white cityscapes embellished with cerulean blue of Greece and of Turkey. The serene ocean settings as I have traveled along the highway trails of the Florida Keys were a carousel for my senses and the old Florida homes and the roosters of Key West were paintings in my thoughts before I made it back home.

I appreciate the everyday beauty of where I live; but there is something extraordinary about stepping into a new place filled with its own unique beauty of flora and fauna that inspires and motivates me to capture the emotions it invokes.

I have always loved drawing; so, starting out with an accur ate drawing of my subject is the beginning of a good painting for me; and, to be honest, the most exciting step in my artwork

Painting Process

When my drawing is complete, I paint a yellow base coat on my subject with Indian Yellow or  Aureolin Modern

By layering my watercolors, I achieve a depth of color that recreates the vibrancy that I see in nature
